Name: Pieter J.C. van Everdingen
Hometown: Utrecht, The Netherlands
Years experience: 3-4 (with intervals)
Gigs: None at this moment, my girlfriend and I have just become the proud parents of a beautiful son Pepijn in April 2007 and I’ve moved from Breda to Utrecht, where I still have to find my way in the music scene (and enough time to practice and play). In Breda I’ve played with Steady Eddy & The Handsome Horns (funky jazz standards). My perfect gig would be with D-Blue’n Fonky Jazz Thang (a dream band that does not exist yet).
Gear: Custom build Martina-Van Huik Forza 5-string with a swamp ash body and a maple neck, passive Martina elements, black hardware, lightweight Hipshot tuners and a BassMute (a 5-string Musicman was too heavy, a 5-string Lakland was too expensive and a Martina-Van Huik Forza bass was (and still is) a perfectly balanced instrument with a wide range of sounds for a very good price. A SWR Workingman 12 and no effects.
Day Job: Enterprise ICT Architect
Why I play bass: I just want to lay the foundation for others to build upon and groove!!
Light-bulb moments: On several occasions reading Bass Player magazine. A quote by John “JR” Robinson in an article in Modern Drummer: “Relaxation is the key word”. After that I finally found my groove (on keyboards) in the late ninetees. Also any useful insights by George Martin, Jerry Wexler, the late Tom Dowd and others as told in several documentaries. But I still have to find my groove on bass.
